Wind slab
- Above 2,500 m
The northwesterly wind will transport only a little snow.
The northwesterly wind will transport only a little snow.
Little snow fell in the last two days. As a consequence of a moderate to strong northwesterly wind, mostly small wind slabs will form in the course of the day in particular adjacent to ridgelines. They are to be found in particular in steep terrain at elevated altitudes. These are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in terrain where there is a danger of falling.
Less snow than usual is lying. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. On Friday it was mild. The rain gave rise to thorough wetting of the old snowpack over a wide area below approximately 2500 m. New snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust, especially below approximately 2600 m. The old snowpack is unfavourably layered.
The avalanche danger will decrease gradually.
