The sometimes deep wind slabs of last week remain for the foreseeable future prone to triggering at intermediate and high altitudes. They are to be assessed critically. The avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Avalanches can be released in near-surface layers, even by a single winter sport participant. Caution is to be exercised adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, and on steep slopes. Some natural avalanches are to be expected. At intermediate and high altitudes and on very steep slopes dry loose snow avalanches are possible, but they will be mostly small. In addition at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain, some dry slab avalanches are possible. They can in isolated cases be released in the old snowpack and reach quite a large size. Moist snow slides are possible. After an overcast night this applies at low and intermediate altitudes.

In some localities up to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Tuesday above approximately 2500 m. This applies in particular along the border with France and along the border with Switzerland. Outgoing longwave radiation during the night will be reduced in some places. The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze will soften quickly. This applies at low altitude. The sometimes strong wind will transport the snow. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. The new snow of the last two days is lying on soft layers in all aspects above approximately 2300 m. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in shady places that are protected from the wind, especially above approximately 2300 m.
