Avalanche Activity

In some localities 10 cm of snow will fall. Gradual increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall.

Low avalanche danger will prevail. Wind slabs can in isolated cases be released by large loads. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on extremely steep slopes. Such avalanche prone locations are rather rare and are clearly recognisable to the trained eye. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. Even a small avalanche can sweep winter sport participants along and give rise to falls. As the moisture increases individual moist snow slides are possible. In the evening as a consequence of the snowfall there will be a gradual increase in the avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

In all aspects in all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack on extremely steep shady slopes. Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found on extremely steep shady slopes at elevated altitudes. The weather conditions will give rise to slight moistening of the snowpack. Over a wide area 5 to 10 cm of snow will fall until the evening. The wind will be strong. The fresh snow and the wind slabs that are being formed by the wind will be deposited on soft layers in particular on shady slopes at elevated altitudes.

Tendency

40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Thursday. Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall.
