Wind slab
- Above 2,000 m
Wind slabs represent the main danger.
Wind slabs represent the main danger.
In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls mostly small wind slabs formed. Caution is to be exercised in particular in extremely steep shady starting zones at high altitude. Even a small avalanche can sweep snow sport participants along and give rise to falls.
In some localities 10 to 20 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen since Sunday above approximately 2000 m. The old snowpack is well consolidated and its surface has a strong melt-freeze crust. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. In particular at intermediate and high altitudes there is still a very large amount of snow.
