Wind slab
- Above 1,600 m
The wind slabs are clearly recognisable. They represent the main danger.
The wind slabs are clearly recognisable. They represent the main danger.
The older wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Especially on wind-loaded slopes more small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized avalanches are possible. Avalanches can be released, mostly by large loads.
In some places wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. Weak layers exist in the snowpack.
In some localities light snowfall. In all regions warming. As a consequence of snowfall and the southwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form.
