Highlights

Stability is increasing but there is still a CONSIDERABLE avalanche danger on slopes steeper than 35 degrees in the upper elevation northwest through east facing terrain.

Slopes that have already avalanched are safer than slopes that haven't.

While chances for triggering an avalanche are decreasing, I am still leery of steep slopes that haven't avalanched.

There is no doubt that time and warmer weather are helping settle and stabilize the snowpack. Many many slopes (especially north of Horseshoe Mtn) have already avalanched and are unlikely to avalanche again right now. Between the increasing stability and the fact that so many slopes have avalanched, the likelihood of triggering an avalanche is very much decreasing. I've documented many slopes that have avalanched and have some more to add. AVALANCHE MAP

Now for some bad news. The weak loose sugary snow at the base of the snowpack is still there. Test results are still poor. There are many slopes scattered around that haven't avalanched yet.

You will need to take this information and decide what kind of risk you're willing to accept. There is no doubt that chances for triggering an avalanche are getting smaller but there is still a chance.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Tuesday brought more warm weather with temperatures slightly higher than Monday. Highs were in the mid 30s along the higher terrain. All the sunny slopes have become damp and you'll find a melt freeze crust on them this morning. Overnight, temperatures stayed mild with higher locations in the upper 20s. Southwest wind has been light.

Mountain Weather: It's going to be another sunny day today with highs along the upper ridges in the mid 30s. Southerly wind will remain fairly light but probably will increase in speed a bit as the day progresses. There is a storm pushing in from the southwest tonight. As this swings through, wind will shift to the northwest overnight and we should see a little shot of snow during this time. I'm thinking 3 to 5 inches is reasonable.
