Avalanche Activity

The new snow and wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence. The fresh snow and the wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant, in particular on steep slopes.

The various wind slabs have bonded poorly with each other and the old snowpack, in particular on steep slopes. On steep slopes and in gullies and bowls the avalanche situation is unfavourable. Dry avalanches can also be triggered in the old snowpack and reach medium size. Whumpfing sounds and shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack are a clear indication of a weakly bonded snowpack.

Snowpack Structure

The fresh snow and the wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes. The snowpack will be unfavourable in particular on steep slopes.
