Avalanche Activity

The wind was strong to storm force over a wide area. Wind slabs represent the main danger.

The sometimes storm force wind has transported a lot of snow. As a consequence of the strong northwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations formed during the last few days. They are to be found in particular between approximately 1900 and 2300 m. In addition the hard wind slabs of the last few days in pass areas in all aspects and generally at elevated altitudes are capable of being triggered now as before. This applies in particular in case of a large load. In particular intermediate altitudes as well as in places that are protected from the wind: The soft wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases.

Snowpack Structure

The strong wind has transported a lot of snow. In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular at intermediate and high altitudes a lot of snow is lying for the time of year.
