Avalanche Activity

The danger of moist and wet avalanches will already increase in the late morning.

In particular on very steep slopes and in steep rocky terrain more small and medium-sized gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. High altitudes and the high Alpine regions: The near-surface layers of the snowpack can be released in isolated cases by individual winter sport participants. Naturally triggered avalanches and penetration of the old snow cover show the existence of a weak snowack. In the afternoon the weather will be partly cloudy in some regions. Backcountry tours should be concluded timely.

Snowpack Structure

30 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell on Monday above approximately 2300 m. The new snow of Monday has settled to a large extent. Below approximately 3000 m: The snowpack is moist and its surface has a melt-freeze crust. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise from early morning to rapid moistening of the snowpack. The high temperatures in the late morning will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack on sunny slopes at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions, and in all aspects at low and intermediate altitudes. Below approximately 2400 m only a little snow is lying on south facing slopes.
