A stable early season snowpack exists and avalanche activity is not expected today. New snow will fall on a variety of snow surfaces including hard crusts and faceted snow such as surface hoar. Daytime accumulations of this snow will be light and will not significantly increase the avalanche hazard,

A Pacific trough and associated cold front will move through the region Friday night and into Saturday bringing two to five inches of new snow to the higher elevations. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the mid-teens before rising into the low 20s during the day. Westerly to southwesterly ridgetop winds will range from 10 to 20 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW on Saturday. If forecasted snowfall occurs, isolated pockets of shallow surface slab will build on leeward slopes at the higher elevations. Skiers and riders might be able to trigger these slabs in steep, avalanche prone terrain.
