Persistent slabs rest upon weak, faceted snow and hard snow surfaces. These slabs, with depths up to three feet at the mid and upper elevations and around a foot deep at the lower elevations, could be triggered by skiers and riders in steep, avalanche prone terrain. These slabs will become more susceptible to failure later in the day if significant loading occurs. Some steep slopes may be crossed multiple times before a weak spot is encountered causing failure of the slope.
