Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche in rounded pillows of firm snow that may crack under your weight. Look for and avoid these drifts below ridges and inside gullies. Avoiding rounded pillows of wind-drifted snow on steep slopes is the best way to reduce your hazard. Look for safer riding on sheltered slopes less than about 35 degrees.
