Avalanche conditions are dangerous. Strong winds on Wednesday night and additional snowfall formed drifted slabs resting on a tender snowpack. You can trigger slides in the recently drifted snow, but the bigger concern is avalanches breaking on weak layers buried 1 to 2 feet deep. You can trigger these avalanches from flat areas below steep slopes.
Avoid steep slopes where you see bulbous pillows of recently drifted snow, or observe shooting cracks in the snow. More snow on Friday keeps the danger elevated.
