Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger a dangerous slab avalanche, and they can grow large enough to bury you. Wind-drifted slopes will be the most dangerous, but take extra caution on any slope with a buried weak layer. Conservative decision-making is essential for traveling safely in the backcountry. The easiest way to reduce your chances of getting caught in an avalanche is to avoid traveling on or underneath slopes steeper than about 30 degrees.
