Strong northwesterly ridgetop winds on Wednesday redistributed existing snow and stiffened shallow wind slabs at the mid and upper elevations. There, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger these isolated pockets of slab with depths on six to twelve inches. At the lower elevations, the snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely.

Overnight and Friday morning mostly clear and cold conditions are expected. Temperatures are to be near zero degrees at all elevations in the morning. As the day progresses, so will the cloud cover as a weak upper level system arrives that should generate areas of light snow through Friday night. Mountain high temperatures are to be in the teens and winds are to be light. The general avalanche hazard will be Low. Above 8000 feet isolated pocket of wind slab could be triggered with depths of four to twelve inches in steep wind loaded terrain. Avalanches below 8000 feet are not expected.
