Most slopes are safe, but even a small slide can have serious consequences above cliffs and rocks in extreme terrain. Pay attention to snow conditions before dropping in. Avoid lingering pockets of firm wind-drifted snow and look for heavy, wet snow lower in elevation. Starting and ending your day early will reduce your chances of any wet snow avalanches.
