You can trigger a slab avalanche where you encounter freshly wind-drifted snow, especially on northwest through northeast to southeast-facing slopes. These slab avalanches will be deepest just below ridgelines or in snow-catching gullies at upper elevations. On Saturday, you can expect safer avalanche conditions below treeline, as it will take longer for a problematic slab to develop. By Sunday, as more snow accumulates, the danger will extend lower into the valleys.
