Avalanche Summary

You can trigger a small avalanche where you find more than around 6 to 8 inches of wind-drifted snow on a steep north, northeast, or east-facing slope. Even a small avalanche can injure you if you are knocked over and dragged down a rocky slope. If you notice cracking in the snow around your feet, you found one of these wind drifts and you should consider avoiding steep slopes.
