Storm snow has piled up, creating small but easily triggered avalanches. Problem spots are steep, shady slopes where snow from previous storms has become very weak and fragile. Those will have good snow cover, looking white and smooth instead of rocky or brushy. The new snow may feel chalky or stiff from the wind. Small avalanches can drag you on an unforgiving ride through rocks or trees.
