Avalanche Summary

You might trigger an avalanche in wet snow. Loose avalanches may gouge deeply and run far. Slides may break as wide slabs on a dusty crust layer buried one to two feet deep.

Regardless of the avalanche flavor you encounter, the advice is the same: start and end your day early to maximize your time for safe travel. You can trigger avalanches once you are sinking past your ankles into wet snow. Once the snow gets wet, head to less steep, less consequential, or colder slopes.
