Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes with drifted snow. Slopes that face north through east to southeast are the most dangerous, especially directly below ridgelines and in cross-loaded gullies. Watch for shooting cracks and listen for audible collapses in the snowpack. If you experience these, then look for slopes sheltered from the wind or less than about 35 degrees as safer choices.
