Avalanche Summary

The most dangerous slopes throughout the West Elk and Ragged Mountains are the lee sides of a ridgeline where recent winds created dangerous slabs of snow. Identify these dangerous terrain features by the smooth, rounded, often wave-like appearance often below cornices, and avoid traveling on or directly under them to reduce your chances of being caught in an avalanche.
