Avalanche Activity

Snowdrifts. Strong winds.

Avalanche danger above the treerline is moderate. Fresh snowdrifts can in E/S aspects be triggered by minimum additional loading. Size 2 avalanches are expected.

Snowpack Structure

Some drifts will be deposited atop hardened snowpack surfaces on Saturday, or atop a layer of surface hoar. The old snowpack was able to settle but is riddled with faceted crystals, thereby weakened. Otherwise it is hard, icy.

Weather Synopsis

South of the Niedere Tauern, less snowfall. Strong NW winds, gusts to 100 km/hr. In the south, the northerly foehn wind can disperse the clouds, sunshine is possible. At 2000m: -7 degrees.

No change in avalanche danger is expected.
