Hazard rating for Douglas remains low for today after little change yesterday and overnight. Loose wet activity on solar aspects and sensitive cornices are again our primary concerns. Try not to enter runs near cornices and if you are near them try to limit your exposure time. Wet loose activity will be more pronounced as the day goes on and the sun does it's thing, try to avoid these slopes especially later in the day.

Wet Loose hazard will build thoughout the day as heat from the sun gets stronger. Look for signs of wet loose problems on any southern or western exposed aspects. Watch out for snow shedding from trees and small fresh rollerballs of snow on slope as signs of increasing wet loose hazard.
Cornices grew quite large on N aspects after last weeks strong Southeasterly winds and remain sensitive to human triggering and warming from the sun.
Avalanche hazard should be similar to yesterday for the mountains of Douglas Island. Continued sunny weather and warm afternoon temps on sun exposed terrain should keep wet loose and cornice problems as a factor today. Another potential hazard that skiers and riders should pay attention to is the possibility of some wind slab development overnight. Winds have been moderate from the NNE this morning, so look for signs of wind loading on upper elevation S/SW aspects. Weather forecasts point toward snow and wind returning to the mountains of Douglas this week.
