Warming temps throughout the day combined with light winds and increasing solar radiation will contribute to Wet Loose avalanche problems today. Wet Loose hazard will be found on any terrain that gets persistent sun exposure (SE-NW aspects) and will be present at all elevations. Expect Wet Loose avalanche hazard to increase throughout the day as temperatures warm sun exposed terrain. As Wet Loose hazard increases, riders will notice boots/skis/boards sinking deeper into the snowpack. Wet Loose avalanches generally start small but they can entrain considerable amounts of snow as they move down slope.
Wet Loose avalanche hazard will increase throughout the day today. This hazard will be found mainly on sun exposed aspects (SE in the morning and tracking with the sun to the NW by late afternoon) and will be present at all elevations. Look for Wet Loose signs such as roller balls/pin wheels on slopes.
The mountains of Douglas Island are currently in a very mild, spring like weather regime. Warm day time temps in the 40's and mild temps (around freezing at ridgetop) overnight are combining with considerable amounts of solar energy and generally light winds to create a Wet Loose avalanche problem on sun exposed terrain. Cornices should also be approached with caution as well as increasing temps and solar activity will put a considerable load on already strained cornice features.
