Mount Shasta

A thin snowpack, shallow buried objects and variable snow surfaces continue to be the primary hazard. The avalanche hazard is low. Anticipate changing conditions next week. 

Waiting, just waiting. Conditions are thin. Winter stoke is palpable, but we just need that winter part. Not much new to mention. You know the game: tread lightly out there. Skiing is still possible with some mindfulness. You will encounter primarily crusts on the surface and rocks just below. Stick to terrain you know, stay in the flow, go slow, float like a feather. An aggressive turn or two could result in equipment and/or flesh and bone injuries. On Mount Shasta, ~17 inches of snow remains at treeline. The upper mountain snowpack has been wind stripped down to a salt and pepper mix of rock and snow. Over on the west side in the Castle Lake and Mount Eddy terrain, very little snow exists.
