Highlights

All steep terrain near and above treeline poses the highest likelihood of triggering a wind slab avalanche. Large cornices indicate that the slope below has previously been wind loaded. Watch for new snow blowing and signs of wind drifts. Apply appropriate travel and riding techniques to help mitigate the danger today. Shooting cracks beneath your feet and signs of recent avalanches are bull's eye clues that the snowpack is unstable.

Shifting winds and new snow are both key ingredients needed to create fresh wind slabs. Cross-loaded slopes exist on the bottom half of the compass and will likely occur over the majority of terrain near and above the treeline by today's end.  Although wind-loaded slopes may be difficult for humans to trigger, best not to test your luck, considering the deadly consequences.

Today's snow surface is tomorrow's weak layer. A surface hour layer was found in the Eddies on east and northeast aspects below and near treeline.
