Avalanche danger
Highlights
Generally stable avalanche conditions exist. Watch for small wet snow avalanches on sunny slopes in the hottest part of the day. Expect variable surface conditions and plan accordingly.
Avalanche Discussion
Sunny, warm days are melting snow on south-facing slopes, while clear, cool nights are refreezing it. No new avalanches have been reported for the past 3 days.
Small, isolated wet loose avalanches are still possible on sunny slopes, especially on very steep, rocky terrain. Rockfall is also a concern in these areas.
Snow conditions vary. Expect crusts and wind-affected surfaces in many places, though soft, good-quality snow remains on sheltered north-facing slopes. With good planning, it’s a great day to be in the mountains.
Get it while you can. Cloud cover tonight and tomorrow morning may create a greenhouse effect, warming cold snow on polar aspects.
