Avalanche Activity

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found at elevated altitudes. Wind slabs require caution.

Wind slabs can in isolated cases be released. Caution is to be exercised in particular on very steep shady slopes, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls at elevated altitudes. In the regions exposed to a lot of wind this applies especially along the border with Italy and along the border with Slovenia. Mostly avalanches are small. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a strengthening wind from southwesterly directions, rather small wind slabs formed. The fresh and older wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack on wind-protected northwest, north and northeast facing slopes. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. In all altitude zones a little snow is lying. Hardly any snow is lying on south facing slopes.

Tendency

Low avalanche danger will persist.
