Updated Tuesday 09:00: Due to uncertainty regarding weak layers high in the snowpack and the influence of the sun, the snowpack can be locally unstable. In many places the snowpack will appear stable, but avalanche activity in surrounding regions shows that avalanches can be triggered on persistent weak layers.

Sun and clear weather invite for great mountain trips, but stay alert! Sun and rising daytime temperatures will soften and wet the snow in steep, sun-exposed slopes. Here, avalanches may release naturally when the sun is at its strongest and the day is at its warmest.

Be extra cautious of the danger of cornice collapses. It is very difficult to predict when cornices will break — keep a safe distance! Cornice failures can trigger large avalanches on deeper weak layers that are otherwise very difficult to trigger.

In high-elevation north-facing terrain, wind slabs and weak layers of faceted crystals may still be present.

Oppdatert tirsdag 09.00: På grunn av usikkerheten med tanke på svake lag høyt i snødekket og solens påvirkning vurderes snødekket å være lokalt ustabilt. Snødekket kan i stor grad framstå som stabilt, men skredaktivitet i regionene rundt viser at skred kan løses ut på vedvarende svake lag.

Sol og klarvær innbyr til fine turer i fjellet, men vær obs! Sol og stigende dagtemperaturer vil gjøre snøen i bratte, solvendte helninger myk og våt. Her kan det løsne skred av seg selv når solen er på sitt høyeste og dagen sitt varmeste. Vær ekstra oppmerksom på faren for skavlbrudd. Det er svært vanskelig å forutsi når skavler knekker - hold god avstand! Skavlbrudd kan løse ut store skred på dypere svake lag som ellers er svært vanskelig å påvirke. I nordvendt terreng i høyden kan det fortsatt finnes fokksnø og svake lag av kantkorn.

Snowpack Structure

I høyden består overflaten av myke flak eller løssnø som gir mye bra skiføre. På vindutsatte områder er terrenget avblåst eller består av hard fokksnø. I lavlandet og opp til ca. 500 moh og sørvendte helninger er snøen fuktig og påvirket av sol og milde temperaturer. Kantkorn finnes trolig i spredte lommer under fokksnø i høyden. Eldre svake lag av kantkorn som ligg dypt i snøen er generelt vanskelige å påvirke. Men ved svært stor belastning, typisk skavlbrudd er det mulig med store skred på disse lagene.

Tendency

Increasing wind will cause snow transport and the formation of fresh wind slabs. As there is limited snow available for transport, significant drifting and the formation of large slabs are not expected. Especially in north-facing terrain, pockets of faceted crystals exist high in the snowpack, and where these pockets are present, the risk of triggering avalanches is greatest.

Be cautious in areas where there is locally more snow transport and wind-drifted snow than expected. In these locations, it may also be possible to trigger avalanches in fresh wind slabs.
