Regions

Kananaskis, Bow Valley, Highwood Pass, North 40, Spray - KLakes.

Temperatures will rise slightly over the next few days. Sounds strange for February, but if the clouds part, watch for softening snow. The softening could work to your advantage and improve the ski quality.

Confidence

High

  • We are confident due to a stable weather pattern.

Avalanche Summary

Still nothing to report.

Snowpack Summary

A few centimeters fell last night with graupel and rimed snow mixed together. Graupel is very small, round "balls" of snow. This dusting is lying on old surfaces including sun crust, surface hoar and you guessed it, windslab. So far this layer combo isn't an avalanche problem, its more of a ski quality issue. Aside from the interesting surface layers, the upper mid pack is continuing to weaken while the mid pack itself is remaining solid and settled. Below tree line there was evidence of the 2 surface hoar layers down 5 & 50cm, but it's decomposing and isn't a concern given the nature of the upper snowpack.

Weather Summary

Another day of mixed cloud and sun. Looks like it will cloud over starting at noon with a few minor flurries blowing through. The morning low will be about -6, with a high of -1. Moderate west winds at ridgetop.
