Kananaskis.
Not much is changing out there right now. Easy travel but not the best turns at this time. Be thinking about wide propagations from the hard windslabs from thin areas.
Saturday looks to be a splitter day with temps at -6C for a daytime high, clear skies, and moderate SW winds.
No new snow.... but hey, there is always next week!
1 sz 1.5 slab was observed on the northern part of the goat range failing just above treeline. This was on a N aspect in 40deg terrain.
Extensive wind slabs, hard wind slabs, buried wind slabs, and sastrugi(wavy ridges of snow formed by the wind) dominate the alpine and open areas of tree line. These hard wind slabs can be tricky to evaluate because they have the potential to propagate but gives someone the impression underfoot that the base is solid. Take the time to dig and evaluate before committing to larger slopes.
