Highlights

The general avalanche hazard for most areas west of and along the Continental Divide is LOW but the hazard is MODERATE in the upper Green River Basin, which received large snowfall amounts earlier in the week. Pockets of surface slabs up to 12 inches deep in the Upper Green River Basin lie upon slick old snow surfaces and could be triggered by riders or skiers who venture onto steep, wind loaded slopes.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. ) A weak pulse of moisture in the northwest flow will bring two to three inches of snow to higher elevations Tuesday evening. Wednesday light snow is expected to continue with daytime temperatures in the mid teens. Winds will continue from the west at 20 mph gusting to 30. AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON AREAThe General Hazard will remain at MODERATE above 9000 feet and LOW below. Pockets of hard slabs to a foot in depth can be easily released in steep areas with east to southeast aspects. PORTIONS OF THE TOGWOTEE PASS / CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AREA WEST OF AND ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA: The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain LOW. The snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely except in isolated, wind loaded pockets. FOR THE UPPER GREEN RIVER BASIN AND THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Pockets of surface slabs up to 12 inches in depth exist in steep, wind loaded areas. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
