Togwotee Pass

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. In very steep avalanche terrain the chance to trigger dense slabs to depths of three feet continues. This morning these slabs may only be susceptible to failure in shaded terrain but as sunlight and warming soften and weaken the snowpack this afternoon these slabs will become more sensitive to trigger in all steep wind loaded avalanche terrain and on all aspects.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are expected as high pressure and nighttime temperature inversions build over the area for the weekend. Mountain temperatures are to rise from the low teens into the low thirties. Morning fog is expected. The general avalanche hazard will be Moderate. In the morning it may be possible for skiers and riders to trigger slabs to three foot depths in very steep north facing terrain in the Togwotee and Southwest areas. Increasing temperatures and direct sunlight will increase the sensitivity of these slabs and provide the possibility to trigger similar slabs in the Tetons and on other aspects.
