You will likely trigger an avalanche on any steep slope with more than 8 inches of new or drifted snow. Slopes will be the most dangerous where winds drift snow into thick, cohesive slabs. Cracking and collapsing in the snow are signs to head to lower-angled slopes and those sheltered from the wind.
