Avalanche Summary

You can trigger wet avalanches on steep slopes where melt-freeze crusts are thin and unsupportable or where these crusts melt in the late morning. The window for safe travel is in the early morning hours before the sun heats the snow.

If you find yourself sinking into wet, mushy snow, then it's possible you could trigger a wet avalanche, and you should either move to lower-angled slopes or call it a day.
