Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche where you find firm, rounded pillows of drifted snow. Assume that these drifts rest on old weak snow and that you can trigger them from below or a distance. Cracking and collapsing are signs that you have found unstable snow. You can find safer travel on slopes sheltered from the wind or on slopes less than about 35 degrees.
