Avalanche Summary

Triggering an avalanche on higher elevation wind-drifted slopes is becoming harder, but the consequences will be severe. The most dangerous slopes face north to northeast to east and will have thick slabs of snow sitting over weaker layers that could fail big if you find the wrong spot on a slope. Steer clear of steep open slopes below cornices and ridges, especially if they are peppered with shallow rocky spots. Safer travel options exist in lower-angle wind-sheltered terrain below treeline and on south-facing slopes where denser slabs are less prevalent.
