Following Sunday night's storm, steep wind-loaded slopes near and below ridgelines are the most likely place to trigger a slab avalanche Monday. If the sun pops out, expect wet loose avalanches to release on steep sunny slopes.

Observers in the Hurricane Ridge area on Sunday noted loose, dry snow on northerly aspects and variable conditions with a mix of surface crusts on other aspects in the Hurricane Ridge area. No new avalanches were reported. On Saturday, NPS rangers reported whumpfing and shooting cracks on a low angle North aspect near treeline. The interface was likely the 3/18 pre-storm layer. S-SW winds have drifted recent storm snow onto W-N-E aspects.
We are nearing the end of a multi-day storm cycle with another 4-8 inches of snow and moderate to strong S-SW winds expected Sunday night. This is on top of the 2+ feet that's fallen in the Hurricane Ridge area since Thursday night. Steep wind loaded slopes near and below ridgelines are the most likely place to trigger a slab avalanche in the new snow Monday. New storm or wind slabs will likely exist on W-N-E aspects. Consider avoiding slopes steeper than 35 degrees, especially those at upper elevations capable of producing large avalanches until recent storm layers have had more time to settle.
If traveling along ridgelines with large cornices make sure to stay well back from the edge. Travelers are surprised every season when cornices break further back than they expect. Cornice fall could trigger an avalanche on the slope below. It's spring-time, so if the sun pops out for an extended time following new snowfall, expect wet loose avalanches to follow suit on steep sunny slopes. If you are sinking into wet surface snow deeper than your ankle or you see rollerballs or pinwheels release naturally on sunny slopes, it's time to change aspect or move to lower angle terrain.
