Avalanche Activity

Individual avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on very steep shady slopes.

Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released in isolated cases in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Avalanches can be released, mostly by large loads. As a consequence of warming, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase gradually. Apart from the danger of being buried, restraint should be exercised in particular in view of the danger of avalanches sweeping people along and giving rise to falls. The backcountry touring conditions are mostly favourable.

Snowpack Structure

In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year. The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations. The wind slabs are lying on weak layers on shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack necessitate caution. Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise as the day progresses to increasing and thorough wetting of the snowpack.

Tendency

Sunshine and high temperatures will give rise on Wednesday to increasing moistening of the snowpack in all aspects. The avalanche danger will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate).
