The consequences of being caught in an avalanche involving the Dec 5th interface are severe with slab depths of 2 to 4 feet. Poor structure exists at the base of the snowpack, and in areas where a slab has formed over the weak layers, skiers and riders could trigger large avalanches. Backcountry travelers should use caution today and be ready to adjust travel plans when warning signs, such as collapses and shooting cracks, are encountered.
