Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent in the afternoon. Gradual increase in danger of moist avalanches as a consequence of warming.

As a consequence of new snow and a strong to storm force northwesterly wind, further wind slabs will form in the course of the day. These will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at elevated altitudes. In the evening in some localities danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. Fresh and older wind slabs can be released by large loads in particular. This applies especially on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines. Dry avalanches can in isolated cases be released in deep layers.

Snowpack Structure

In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist deep in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Weak layers in the old snowpack can still be released in isolated cases in particular at intermediate and high altitudes.

Tendency

In particular in the regions exposed to the foehn wind light snowfall above approximately 2300 m. Up to 2000 m and above rain will fall. As the snowfall level rises the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses.
