Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence. As a consequence of solar radiation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent.

By Sunday wind slabs will form in particular adjacent to ridgelines. The fresh wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases at elevated altitudes. The fresh wind slabs are clearly recognisable. They are to be avoided as far as possible. At high altitude the avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. In addition further very occasional gliding avalanches are possible, in particular on steep east, south and west facing slopes below approximately 2600 m. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of wind, clearly visible wind slabs will form. In some places wind slabs are lying on soft layers. Moist snow slides are possible below approximately 2000 m. In particular at low altitude a little snow is lying.
