Highlights

Avalanches large enough to bury or injure a rider are unlikely on Wednesday.  Don't completely let your guard down, particularly if you are finding soft snow on steep alpine slopes.  Continue to use safe travel techniques like riding one at a time.

Avalanche Discussion

Today I found the best riding on open slopes near and below treeline where large surface hoar had developed.  A couple of inches of new snow from Saturday afternoon through Sunday made for smooth sliding over a supportable rain crust.  On Broken Top, the surface hoar didn't extend into alpine elevations and soft snow was more limited.   Other than the weak surface snow (which isn't buried, so not a problem for now), we haven't been finding any persistent weak layers in our snowpack.
