Trace new snow amounts were recorded this morning across the forecast zone. Although minimal, this skiff of new snow combined with residual snow from early this week provides material for today’s northerly winds to potentially load up the nooks and crannies in complex terrain. Upper alpine terrain centered around Mammoth Lakes will have the highest probability for pockets of reactive wind slab. Look for cross-loaded zones such as areas adjacent to cliff bands, rock outcroppings, and the sidewalls of couloirs or gullies. Size of reactive wind slab will likely be small, but if cut loose in exposed terrain, even a small slide could produce a bad outcome in consequential terrain.
