Highlights

Wow, we actually have a small storm moving through! This will not change the avalanche conditions drastically though. Overall, the avalanche danger remains generally LOW. My hunch is this new snow will be mostly stable. However, watch for cracking in the highest terrain where shallow new snow slabs may have formed and may be sensitive to people.

    As always, treat the new snow guilty until proven innocent. That said, I'm not really expecting much avalanche activity today. I'm guessing the new snow will be fairly well behaved. If you're getting into upper elevations where the new snow landed on top of old snow, this is where you should pay attention. Watch for cracking within the new snow which indicates sensitive conditions. Quick hand pits should reveal whether the new snow is bonded well or shears easily.

Snow and Weather

General Conditions: It's good to see some snow even if it's not all that much. We've picked up about 5 inches overnight. Temperatures are in the low 20s. Wind from the west southwest has been moderate in speed.

Mountain Weather: We should see periods of snow today with a few more inches of accumulation possible. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 20s. Wind starts out light to moderate in speed from the west then gradually shifts northwest and increases in speed a bit later this afternoon. More cold air moves in tonight with a continued chance for snow and small accumulation. The storm clears out on Sunday with cold temperatures in its wake. Monday is slightly warmer then we'll see warmer temperatures again through the work week.
