Central Cascades
Avalanche danger
Highlights
Sunday's weather and avalanche hazard will be the same as we experienced today. The snow started out firm and then softened throughout the day. Steep sunny slopes could conceivably melt enough to produce a Wet Loose avalanche that could knock a rider off their feet. That being said, I haven't seen or heard of any observations of Wet Loose avalanches.
Avalanche Discussion
We are in a spring diurnal cycle, and have been for quite a while. On most slopes the snow starts out firm and just edgeable each morning and then softens as it melts on sunny slopes. We have seen very little Wet Loose avalanche activity with just a few observations from during those warmest days last week. I'm looking forward to a short return to more wintery weather and skiing early next week.
