Forecast Snow Stability: Areas of moderately bonded windslab will exist mainly above 850 metres on Easterly and Southerly aspects. Corrie rims and sheltered gullies will be most affected. Fragile cornices will affect some of these areas. Elsewhere many slopes will be scoured by the recent strong winds. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snow showers and the strong North-Westerly winds will die out overnight. Monday will be dry with moderate to fresh generally South-South-Westerly winds. The freezing level will initially be around 750 metres rising above the summits through the course of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Snow showers heavy at times overnight and through the day have affected the area. Winds have been Westerly to North-Westerly strong to gale force. The freezing level is around 700 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Many slopes have been scoured by the strong winds. Moderately bonded windslab has formed in wind sheltered locations. These areas are mainly on North-East through East to Southerly aspects above 850m. Corrie rims and gully tops are most affected. Cornices have also formed in some of these locations. Isolated accumulations of windslab exist in other sheltered aspects particularly in sheltered gullies. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
