Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs require caution.

As a consequence of a strong northerly wind, sometimes easily released wind slabs will form. These are mostly only small but in some cases prone to triggering. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain above the tree line. The fresh wind slabs are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a strong northerly foehn wind, mostly small wind slabs will form in the course of the day in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In all altitude zones only a little snow is lying. Snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Faceted weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

Tendency

The fresh wind slabs of the weekend remain prone to triggering. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in gullies and bowls in north to northeast to east facing aspects.
