Avalanche problems

  • Persistent weak layers

    • Above 2,500 m

Avalanche Activity

In some localities some new snow to above 1500 m.

In some localities some new snow at intermediate altitudes. These conditions will foster a gradual rise in the avalanche danger in the afternoon in particular on very steep shady slopes. With the onset of the snowfall, the natural avalanche activity will gradually increase.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust only at high altitudes and will hardly soften at all. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded still only poorly. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak.

Tendency

Thursday: Wind and new snow to 1200 m. The avalanche danger will increase during the day.
